Benefits of Membership

  • National conference – each year EHA holds a national conference. This provides members with the opportunity to gain information on current national and international issues, present their own research or best practice examples, and offers extensive networking opportunities. Members receive a substantial discount on the conference registration fee.
  • Branch conference – each year Branches run their own conferences and members receive a substantial discount on the conference registration fee.
  • Regional Group meetings – many Branches have regional groups who hold regular meetings at which local issues are discussed. Members receive a discount on the meeting registration fee.
  • Environmental Health  – members receive an electronic copy of EHA’s international peer-reviewed scientific journal that is published quarterly. The aim of the journal is to provide a link between the science and practice of environmental health, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. The subscription rate for non-members is $180 per year.
  • National E-Newsletter – National E-Newsletter is produced and emailed to members every eight weeks and also available on our website.
  • Branch newsletters – each Branch publishes a regular newsletter that provides an update on local and state issues. There is generally a subscription fee for non-members.
  • Mentoring Program – (soon to be introduced) this program is designed to assist members with their own professional development. There are three levels within the Mentoring program: graduate level, for first year professionals or emerging practitioners; project or specific issue level, for members looking for guidance on project or specific issues; and supervisor level, for members who are looking to move into management and would like mentoring from an experienced manager. Members are able to register to either be a mentor or a mentee.
  • National and Branch Special Interest Groups – the SIGs provide the primary mechanism for EHA to develop policy and comment on current issues. They provide an opportunity for members to be involved in this important role of EHA as well providing an avenue for information exchange.
  • Professional products – EHA has developed and continues to develop products to assist environmental health practitioners and industry to address current environmental health issues. This includes: the FoodSafe® Training Program and range of products (eg. Manuals, Guides for EHOs and Proprietors, workbooks, videos and apparel); AFSA (Australian Food Safety Assessment); conference proceedings; I’M ALERT Food Safety Online training program.
  • Workshops and Seminars – EHA (and in particular Branches) run a range of training courses and workshops each year on issues such as disaster management, food safety and risk assessment. Members receive substantial discounts on the course costs.
  • Website – EHA operate a website (www.eh.org.au) that provides information for members and non-members on both EHA and general environmental health topics. This includes updates on current issues, current policies, and links to various environmental health sites.
  • International links – EHA is a member of the International Federation of Environmental Health and maintains strong links with the New Zealand Institute of Environmental Health and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health in the UK.
  • Representation of Environmental Health at National and Branch levels – as the peak body representing environmental health practitioners in Australia, EHA has a key role in providing input into government policy and legislation, and in commenting on environmental health issues of importance to the general community. Members have an opportunity to provide input into this important role.
  • Networking – through the various conferences, workshops, seminars and meetings run by EHA, members have the opportunity to network and exchange information with other practitioners who work in both government and private sectors.
