Summary Information
Complaints may be received concerning inappropriate handling and disposal of asbestos products. Asbestos poses serious health concerns when particulates are inhaled. Asbestos products that were previously used in construction do not pose an immediate health risk unless they are handled inappropriately or in a state of disrepair. The use of power tools and other equipment is likely to result in the dangerous release of asbestos fibres; examples of unsafe activities include sanding, drilling, cutting and using a high-pressure hose. Sites where large-scale asbestos contamination is present may need to be reported under the contaminated sites legislation.
